News bits on NWN

Heres a bunch of new pieces of information from the Neverwinter Nights Vault:

Single Player/Multi Player

It should be possible for any class to finish the game in single player (3e magic users are a lot more viable at lower levels and your first level will probably be gained in the tutorial, which is single player only and geared specifically to your class).

That said, I'd really encourage you to play through the campaign in multiplayer, first. That's what the campaign is built for and your experience will be that much richer. We want BG2 to be the best in single-player roleplaying and NWN to be the best in multiplayer roleplaying. In other words, don't pass up what we do best. =)

World Map

As for the world map, nothing solid's been worked out yet but don't assume that a world map means imported bitmaps. For instance, we could opt to go with a 'rubber-stamp' approach where you stamp down pre-made location icons (a village stamp, a forest stamp, a dungeon entrance stamp, etc.) to create your world map. As I said, though, we won't be putting too much thought into this issue until a little bit later in the development cycle.

Cutscenes

Regarding cutscenes, you'll basically be using the scripting language to take control of the camera and make your 'actors' do what you want them to. It will take some knowledge of the scripting language but should be quite flexible once you know what you're doing. You'll definitely be able to trigger any of the music that ships with the game. As for using custom music, that's part of the whole user-end customization debate. We'd like to but we still need to work out the details.
