Tom Lischke of Decipher, one of the developers of the Lord of the Rings Trading Card Game, has begun posting articles explaining the rules of the game and giving some behind the scenes looks at how they were created:

"The first issue is, "Why do all of the players in the game start with a copy of Frodo and a copy of The One Ring?" A fair question. After all, it is the ONE Ring, right? Well, when we set out to design The Lord of the Rings TCG, we asked ourselves exactly what was it that players wanted to simulate with their gameplay. For most, that answer is Frodo's quest to destroy the One Ring. Some may want to explore Middle-earth beyond this, but when looking for the focus of the game, the Ring-bearer's journey seemed the strongest glue to hold things together." [More]
